Tracey McNicol


Tracey McNicol is recognised internationally for her university world ranking and research performance expertise. With over 20 years higher education management experience, she has held senior university roles in research analytics, faculty management, institutional performance and strategic planning. Her multi-faceted leadership experience includes a top ranked institution and one looking to improve their position aggressively; she had significant successes in both environments. She has led major projects including establishment of research performance expectations for academic staff; comprehensive report on strategies to improve citation performance; international ranking strategy and outcome modelling; Ministerial report on the economic impact of higher education on the region; and, institutional student fee setting.
Tracey has held various elected appointments to Boards and Committees, including State Chair of the Association for Tertiary Education Managers and is a current member of the QS Ranking Advisory Board. She has also presented and chaired at numerous international and national conferences on institutional performance improvement, world rankings and informed decision-making. 
She is the recipient of two Vice-Chancellor’s Awards: Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Innovation and Excellence, Australian National University in 2016 and Vice Chancellor’s Award for Community Engagement, University of Tasmania in 2004.
