Delivery of National Apprenticeship Forums 2017 -18

Commonwealth Department of Education and Training

We hosted a series of five forums in two capital cities and two regional areas for the Department of Education and Training to assist with policy development to ensure apprenticeships are able to meet the future skill needs of Australian industry. The scope of the forums includes apprenticeships in trade and non-trade occupations.

The series was structured as an integrated set of thematically based forums to assist in the ongoing development of national apprenticeships policy and:

  • provided a platform for structured engagement with stakeholders on significant issues impacting employer and apprentice participation in the Australian Apprenticeships system and work-based learning more broadly and
  • assisted with policy development to ensure apprenticeships are able to meet the future skill needs of Australian industry.

At the time the forums were undertaken, there was considerable public attention being given to the declining number of people being trained through the Australian Apprenticeships system. Over 200 stakeholders from industry, representative groups, government and apprentices attended the forums in person and via webinar.

We prepared a final report for the Department based on participant feedback from the forum series. Download the report here.
