Welcome to PhillipsKPA

PhillipsKPA specialises in the provision of expert services to the education and training industry and associated sectors. Our expertise extends beyond education to other areas of public policy, government relations, research and development, and private sector management.

The company offers a distinctive, independent, in-depth understanding of management, policy and strategic issues across the schools, vocational education and training, adult and community education and higher education sectors. Our knowledge base ranges from the workings of government at the highest levels to the operational management of educational institutions. Our independent position, and the breadth of experience of our consultants and their status in their field, position the company ideally to work at the interfaces between education providers, business enterprises and government agencies.

We work principally, but not exclusively, with the key decision-makers in an organisation and offer a range of services to support institutional leaders and senior managers.

Unlike larger generic consulting firms, we understand the environments within which education institutions operate, and we have the expertise and low overheads necessary to complete complex management projects quickly and cost-effectively.

The Directors of PhillipsKPA are Deborah Lampard, Geoff Noblett, David Phillips, Peter Wade, Craig McInnis and John Levine.

PhillipsKPA welcomes Paul Ramsden

Paul Ramsden

Professor Paul Ramsden, inaugural Chief Executive of the UK Higher Education Academy, will retire from the Academy at the end of this year. On his retirement he will work with the leading education consultancy group, PhillipsKPA.

The Higher Education Academy was set up in 2004 to improve the student learning experience across the UK. Paul Ramsden was recruited as its first chief executive from his position as Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Sydney in 2004.

Professor Ramsden will join PhillipsKPA from the beginning of 2010. He will also continue as visiting professor at the Institute of Education, University of London. Commenting on his retirement, Professor Ramsden said:

I have been privileged to steer the Higher Education Academy through its stimulating initial years and to work with great colleagues in the organisation as well as higher education more generally. The Academy has taken a lead in formulating fresh ideas to provide a better student learning experience. It has been pleasing to see how many of these initiatives have become part of the daily work of our universities and colleges. While I am sorry to be leaving the Academy, my consultancy role and my visiting professorship at the Institute of Education mean that I will maintain a major involvement with higher education policy and practice.

Welcoming Professor Ramsden on behalf of PhillipsKPA, Chairman and Director David Phillips, said:

Paul is one of the leading international authorities on teaching, learning and leadership in higher education. His work has influenced policies for enhancing university effectiveness throughout the world. He is joining us at a critical time as the Australian higher education system undergoes the complex transition toward demand driven funding and as new approaches to quality assurance and university standards are under development.

Professor Ramsden will be in Australia for a series of events in late November and early December.

Appointment - John Levine becomes a Director of PhillipsKPA

We are delighted to announce that John Levine joined PhillipsKPA as its sixth Director on 30th June 2009.

John has been involved with PhillipsKPA for some time and has already made a considerable contribution to our services and reputation. Most recently he has worked intensively on projects at La Trobe and Monash and was involved with the National University for Regional Australia Project. John’s background and experience position him to add great value to PhillipsKPA in the role of Director.

John has over twenty years experience in budgeting, planning and financial analysis in the higher education sector both in Australia and overseas. He has an in-depth knowledge of tertiary education institutions, including strategic planning and management processes. John has worked on projects involving major change and innovative approaches to financial management. Prior to moving into consulting in 2006, John was Director of the Financial Management Resources Division at Monash University. At Monash, he was instrumental in rolling out a new financial management approach which significantly improved the University’s financial planning and management processes.

We welcome John to PhillipsKPA’s Board and are very pleased that he has chosen this path with us. We all look forward to working in this closer relationship.
